So, you’ve probably seen the stunning photos of 14 Mile Beach on Instagram, right? Crystal-clear waters, endless white sand, and those “wish you were here” vibes. It’s definitely got that wow factor. But is it really worth all the hype it’s getting on social media? Let’s break it down.
First Impressions: Beach Paradise?
When you arrive at 14 Mile Beach, located within Warroora Station on WA’s Coral Coast, you’re hit with some serious paradise feels. The beach stretches as far as the eye can see, the water is a mesmerizing shade of blue!
For those into camping, this spot offers the chance to set up your RTT or park your caravan right near the water, which is pretty rare these days. Waking up with the ocean on your doorstep? Yes, please! The beach is remote and relatively untouched, so if you’re chasing a peaceful escape with picture-perfect scenery, this could tick all your boxes.
What’s the Catch?
Well, like most places, it all comes down to where you set up camp. We stayed at Site 10, and while it was nice, it wasn’t ideal for our 4-year-old, who wasn’t super confident around water at the time. There’s quite a steep drop to the sea from some sites, making it a bit tricky for little ones to enter the water safely. Further down the beach from sites 14 onwards had better access to the water for little ones . So if you’re traveling with young kids, you’ll want to carefully choose your spot to ensure it suits your family.
Even in the drone shots we took, it looked like a dreamy white carpet of soft sand. But—looks can be deceiving! Once we were actually there, the sand was pretty coarse and not quite what we expected. Still beautiful, but not the fluffy sand the photos and drone footage suggest!
The track into 14 Mile Beach is a bit of an adventure in itself! It’s an unsealed road that definitely requires a 4WD to tackle comfortably. The drive can get a little bumpy in parts, especially after heavy rain, so make sure your vehicle is up for the challenge.
When the king tides roll in at 14 Mile Beach, things really get interesting! These massive tides completely transform the beach, with the water creeping way up the shore, sometimes even reaching camping spots that seemed safe earlier. It’s both breathtaking and a bit of a thrill if you’re camped out close to the water! Be sure to know the dates of when the next king tide is on its way!
If you’re expecting easy access and loads of things to do, this might not be your scene. It’s very much a place for chilling out, fishing, or taking in the views and visiting near by bays, which is great—if that’s what you’re after.
Is It Worth the Hype?
Well, it depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re all about peaceful, off-grid beach vibes with incredible sunsets, 14 Mile Beach is definitely worth the visit. The beauty is undeniable, and for those who love to camp and explore the great outdoors, this place is a slice of heaven.
Remember when visiting 14 Mile Beach, it’s super important to be fully self-contained. This is a remote, off-grid spot with no access to power, water, or shops, so you’ll need to come prepared with everything you need. That means bringing your own drinking water, food, and a portable toilet if you’re camping. If you’re staying for a while, having solar power or extra batteries will also come in handy. Being self-sufficient not only makes your stay more comfortable but also helps preserve the natural beauty of the beach by keeping it clean and waste-free. It’s all part of the adventure!
But, if you’re not a fan of roughing it or prefer a beach with a few more conveniences, it might not live up to the hype for you. It’s stunning, yes—but not without its challenges.
Personally, we love it! The views are gorgeous, and the sense of peace is hard to beat! Just be sure to pick the right site if you’re traveling with kids—some spots, like Site 10, might not be the most family-friendly with steeper water access.
So, if you’re someone who loves the idea of a quiet, Instagram-worthy escape and doesn’t mind being a bit off the grid, 14 Mile Beach will be right up your alley!
